Ida Makos - Still Life with water
Medium: Oil Painting
Location in MD Anderson: Third Floor, Division of Hematology Medical Oncology, Outside Office C3203
Born in 1902, Ida Makos was a pioneer in the South Jersey arts community.
A housewife and mother of three children, Ida did not start painting until the 1950's. Yet she was still one of just a few female artists in the region at the time.
Ida enjoyed painting landscapes and also took pleasure in teaching her grandchildren how to paint. She loved Halloween and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Ida was also a member of the Society of New Jersey Artists and her work hangs in Millville City Hall. Ida passed away in 1989 at the age of 86.
“I think my grandmother started painting because she was really bored around the house. She would be thrilled to know that her work is hanging at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper.” – John Makos, Jr., grandson of Ida
